A month-long competition has culminated in 12 lucky children receiving fantastic prizes before Christmas. The winners of the Love Local 12 Days of Christmas Art Trail organised by Artswork, Littlehampton Town Council and supported by Arun District Council were announced earlier this week.

The festive art trail celebrated the creativity of more than 300 children and local artists who took inspiration from the carol “12 Days of Christmas” to create giant decorations using upcycled materials – all on display in shop windows.

The competition was designed to encourage people to discover local businesses with each decoration being displayed in the window of an independent shop. The top prize, bought by the project funders, was a Nintendo Switch which went to Littlehampton resident Theodore Baker, five years old.

Another 11 prize bundles donated by local businesses went to Littlehampton children aged between 5 and 12. Prizes included wristbands for Harbour Park, toys from Morrisons, The Works and Forget me Not, vouchers for Crafters’ Corner, Angel White Salon and Topogigio Bubble Tea, sweet boxes from Candy Box and 3 lots of family meal vouchers donated by Harbour Lights Café.

Chair of the Town Council’s Policy and Finance Committee, Councillor Dr James Walsh KStJ, said: “The creativity and skill on display through this trail was really astounding. I particularly liked the Partridge in a Pear Tree, the use of old broken jewellery was very inspired. I take this opportunity to thank all the schoolchildren, artists and businesses for supporting the project, it couldn’t happen without you!”

Speaking at the prize presentation, Town Mayor Councillor Jill Long, said: “I had the pleasure of meeting some of the children whilst they were following the trail and it was fantastic seeing their reaction when they spotted a decoration in the window. Some of the designs were very unusual in their interpretation of the carol which made the trail even more exciting and fun. Well done to everyone who took part in the trail and competition and congratulations to the winners.”
