Basil worked at Southampton Cultural Education Partnership during their Kickstart placement, based at John Hansard Gallery. They tell us how the six month work placement has geared them up for a bright career.
“The Kickstart opportunity has been a really great opportunity for me and has made a big difference to me. Prior to starting it, I didn’t feel I had a lot of certainty or direction in terms of what I wanted to do career-wise. This job has really helped me narrow this down and experience a role and really special work environment which I enjoy. Now I feel like I have found a specific career path I’m passionate about pursuing.
One piece of work I am particularly proud of completing is the Zine I worked collaboratively on with Hannah and Sophie. The brief was to explore and research youth voice and compile and present our findings to Southampton Cultural Education Partnership (SCEP). We were a great team together and we all learned a lot about the nuances of youth voice and how we can use ours as young people. We all put a lot of hard work into the zine, with its total word count actually being longer than my university dissertation, and it received amazing feedback from SCEP in how it will guide their future decision-making.
I’d definitely recommend the Kickstart programme, and especially a Kickstart role with Artswork specifically. It’s clear from my time with them that Artswork is not only somewhere I’ve learned a lot from, but is also a really great organisation that values the work of all its employees and cares deeply about their progression and happiness.”
