In celebration of #LoveArtsAwardWeek2022, we talked to Artsworks Finance & Operations Administrator, Desiree Bratcher, about her experience achieving an Arts Award and how it’s helped her shape her career to become a valued member of the Artswork team. Read part 1 by clicking here.

Tell us about a valuable connection you made whilst delivering/working towards your Arts Award. How has your perspective on partnerships changed since working/speaking with them?

During my Arts Award I got to meet lots of inspiring people.

Kate Griffiths , a theatrical make-up artist, was inspirational, and workshopping acting with Matt Fletcher pushed me out of my comfort zone while looking at the scripts of Shakespeare, Pinter and Eugene Ionesco. Both people gave me a greater understanding of the creative industries, as did the film-making workshops I undertook with Millstream Productions.

Moreover, Hannah Murphy added inspiration, drive and passion to my work, and made me understand the projects more clearly. There are so many more names I could mention! However, I must say, the best useful connection I made was with Artswork, who I still work for.

Can you give an example of when working on your Arts Award had a positive impact on your wellbeing?

During the Arts Award we got to take part in many different activities, where we could meet new people too. I stepped out of my comfort zone, which improved my confidence massively by teaching me that I could handle a lot more than I thought.

The confidence which Artswork gave me, helped me deliver in-person training and support sessions, giving me a massive boost in both my work confidence and my sense of self worth. I have carried this trust and confidence through my time at Artswork and am now taking steps to see how I can support others.

Arts Award is a fantastic qualification for those looking to grow as artists and arts leaders, offering opportunities to connect with and take part in the wider arts world. To find out more about how Arts Award supports young people to unlock their creative potential, click here.
