On 15th June at Turner Contemporary in Kent, Artswork hosted a celebration event for Artsmark Primary and Secondary schools in the region. The day focused on celebrating the artistic passion and hard work of schools recently awarded Artsmark, as well as sharing best practice for those working towards the Award.

Guest speaker Lizzy Stewart (author and illustrator of There’s a Tiger in the Garden) gave a talk to the children about art, illustration and her book, and each school was gifted a signed copy of the book itself.

“Lizzy was a brilliant choice of speaker – she managed to give a presentation that was, like her work, insightful and relevant to a variety of ages. I think people will take a lot away from it that they will remember for some time.”(Norinne Betjemann, Chair of Trustees, Artswork)

So uplifting and inspiring. What a wonderful way to remind us all why we do what we do!” (Lucy Medhurst, Strategic Manager for Kent, Artswork)

The celebration also marked part of Children’s Art Week, a range of events hosted every year across multiple venues in the UK.

“A real breath of fresh air and an inspiration, especially to hear those very talented young singers. Looking forward to becoming more involved with Artsmark!”(Stella Fry, Whitstable Junior School)

We would like to wish all those who attended a great year ahead in all their arts and cultural activities and congratulations to Lizzy Stewart who won the AOI Illustration Award for There’s a Tiger in the Garden after the event. Special thanks to Turner Contemporary for their support and for hosting us for the afternoon.
