Supporting Summer Schools
Date Created: 31st Mar 2021
This year we’ve seen first-hand the positive impact arts and creativity has had on children and young people’s lives. In light of the Department for Education’s (DfE) Summer School programme we wanted to let you know the ways we’re supporting schools to keep children and young people feeling good as we begin to recover from Covid-19 and they transition into secondary school.
Being creative and using your imagination can be the starting point for the group activities and celebrations delivered as part of your summer school offer.
Connecting with culture
Connecting with culture has been created by Artswork as a simple way for schools and children & young people’s organisations to connect with arts and culture. Simply search for great art and culture on your doorstep.
Cultural Education Partnerships (CEPs)
CEPs are designed to be responsive to local needs, with high-level support from senior leaders and decision-makers in their area. To create new, joined-up ways of working and sharing resources. Over the summer there will be various activity from our South East CEPs, and we will be updating this article as we hear of Summer School opportunities. Our CEPs are in:
- Brighton & Hove – Future Creators
- East Kent
- Hastings & Rother – Culture East Sussex
- Isle of Wight
- Milton Keynes – MAKE
- North Oxfordshire
- Oxford City
- Surrey – Culture Box
- West Sussex
Arts Award offers children and young people a journey of personal, creative discovery; the results of which continue to echo through all aspects of their lives for years to come!
From fashion to sculpture, rapping to writing, dance to poetry, Arts Award enables young people to make connections with and participate in the diverse and exciting world we call ‘the arts’, turning their passion or curiosity into a recognised qualification.
The 5 levels of Arts Award support those up to the age of 25 to explore different art forms in increasing depth as they grow and develop new skills, experiences, confidence and interests. For support on embedding Arts Award in your activities email email@example.com.
If you are an Artsmark setting in the South East, our exclusive Artsmark forum is a place for you to network with other teachers, as well as get support from our Artsmark team and trainers. Through this platform, you can also access a range of resources and video content – including lesson plans, and activities that your pupils can follow along with. If you work in a South East Artsmark setting and do not currently have access to this forum, please email us via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our website has a range of free downloadable case studies and resources designed to aid and inspire those working to embed creativity in their curriculum, including:
Presentations from our Supporting Pupil Wellbeing and Reconnecting with Learning through Creativity CPDL session
