Update from Artswork’s CEO, January 2021
Date Created: 11th Jan 2021
I hope that you all had a restful Christmas and New Year period. As we enter the New Year and another national lockdown, I wanted to reassure you that the Artswork team is continuing to work remotely and do all we can to empower children and young people through arts and culture during this time.
Over the last 10 months, we have been able to provide a range of digital support for those working with children and young people in the arts, cultural and education sectors, both adapting our existing offer and creating new resources in response to changing circumstances. We will be continuing to offer and grow this support, including:
For arts and cultural professionals
Artswork Professional Development training courses will continue to be delivered online via Zoom. As we enter a new period of lockdown, we are pleased to announce that we are increasing capacity on our popular one hour Online Safeguarding course. This course was created for those who are moving their work into an online environment that want to sense-check their existing policy against recommended best practice, and identify new areas of risk. Upcoming course dates can be found on our Training and Events page.
Our Connecting with Culture website is an online tool for schools to connect with arts and cultural organisations in the South East. We would encourage all organisations to create a profile on the site, or update their existing profile to reflect any new online offerings for schools during this time.
We continue to support our Cultural Education Partnerships as they develop and adjust their work, including planned and emerging Partnership Investment programmes. We understand that some elements may need to flex as certain settings and organisations are not open and operating as usual; please do keep in touch so that we can support as plans evolve.
For those working in schools and education settings
Our Artsmark team are continuing to deliver a range of training and support sessions for education settings on their Artsmark journey, including Development Days, online via Zoom. Upcoming events can be seen on our Training & Events page. Along with training and support events, our Artsmark Forum contains links to a range of resources for use on your journey, and provides a place to talk with other Artsmark settings. If you are an Artsmark school in the South East and not currently signed-up to the Forum, please contain the Artsmark team via email@example.com
Our team of experienced Education Development Managers are also on hand to help schools across the region tackle any arising issues or worries due to the current circumstances.
In October, we hosted a CDPL webinar for teachers and Senior Leaders looking at Supporting Pupil Wellbeing and Reconnecting with Learning through Creativity. Recordings and presentations from the session, which included a keynote from Professor Dame Alison Peacock, Chief Executive of the Chartered College of Teaching EDMs, can now be found in our Resources section here.
Our Resources section also contains a range of other case studies and toolkits created specifically for schools and education settings, including our STEAM toolkit and four editions of the South East Schools Arts Paper.
The Resources library contains a range of free, practical case studies and toolkits for you to download, whilst our News pages include updates and blog-posts from all of our different programmes. The search function on both of these pages will help focus your search to your specific sector or useful keywords, for example ‘digital’.
Our monthly Bridge and ENYAN newsletters aim to share key guidance and the latest news, and our Professional Development newsletter highlights upcoming training and offers useful tips and guidance to working with children and young people. You can subscribe to all of these on our Newsletters page.
All teams across Artswork are continuing to carry out ‘business as usual’, working from home. If you have any queries or support needs during this time, please get in touch with members of the Artswork team via the contact details in their Staff Profiles, or send any general enquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will make sure your email reaches the right people.
With all best wishes,
