Representation in the Primary Arts Curriculum
Continuing Artswork’s collaboration with Littlehampton Town Council and Arun District Council, and also working with schools and traders across Littlehampton, the EGGstravaganza Trail was designed to animate independent shop windows across the heart of the town with a striking and unusual egg trail created by local artists and school children.
Local artists were invited to apply proposing different and unusual art techniques for schools to design their eggs and Artswork worked with children from River Beach Primary to assess applications. Proposals were assessed against the quality and interest of the workshop offer for schools and the impact of the final egg design. 12 eggs were commissioned and created by children from Years 1 to 9.
8 artists worked in schools across the town to create giant 2D eggs placed in shop windows across the town centre, using techniques including pom pom making, paper marbling and origami, sculpey carving, Modroc sculpting, pyrography, metalwork and collage.
Alongside these, 4 local artists were commissioned to decorate giant 3D fibreglass eggs in their own unique styles which completed the trail.
You can see a map of the artists, business and schools involved below:
[The Trail] ‘really helped the town and all businesses involved become more visible to the public.’
‘There have been hundreds of people coming to look at the egg – and not just families, because of the quality of the art and how unusual it is there have been lots of adults too!
‘We could tell the children involved were proud of the creations and loved the event.’
