Connecting children and young people with arts, cultural and heritage opportunities
Our children and young people need creativity to thrive and to build better lives for themselves so they can join and shape a stronger society and economy in the future. Working in partnership with education and cultural organisations, we support, develop and deliver projects and programmes which broaden horizons, open opportunities and enrich their lives. Our employability and pre-employability programmes develop young people’s skills, for their own growth and as future cultural leaders.
Our employability programmes
We deliver creative skills programmes and apprenticeships to provide young people with the opportunity to gain skills, confidence and practical experience in their local arts, culture and heritage organisations. Through these programmes, we aim to increase access and broaden the horizons of young people whilst diversifying our creative and cultural workforce.

Arts Award
Arts Award comes in 5 levels and each one helps you as a young person to hone and develop new skills and earn an accreditation.

Peer Action Collective
The Peer Action Collective project aims to bring young people together, particularly those with some lived experience of violence, in order to research, explore and take action on the root causes of youth violence through a series of creative approaches.

Artswork Youth Board
Putting the voices of children and young people centre stage to shape Artswork's future. We've recruited 12 young people, some of whom will become Young Trustees, to help build our future policy. Their efforts will culminate in a bespoke training programme for Artswork staff.

Our direct work with children and young people
Kickstart
Young people's employment opportunities have been hit hard by the pandemic. We've welcomed the chance to help 16-24 year-olds across the South East get into arts and culture through 6-month placements. We'll be recruiting for Cohort 3 in early 2022.
Creative Apprenticeships
Our established Apprenticeship programme supports young people on a learning-based work placement. A Creative Apprenticeship is a supportive programme where you earn a wage while learning valuable skills and getting your foot in the door of the industry.
Portsmouth Creative Skills
Our Portsmouth Creative Skills programme has run for several years and has great success. We partner with Portsmouth City Council and those who manage young people leaving care to provide a creative pre-employability programme for those at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training).
