During the week of 8-12 October, schools, education settings and arts and cultural organisations came together to celebrate cultural education across the country through Artsmark Celebration Week.

At Artswork, we celebrated by sharing some films we’d commissioned, to inspire others and to share the great work of settings in the South East. It was great to see up close the efforts of schools that we’ve supported to reach their Artsmark goals, and to really showcase the talent of all the children and young people making, creating, imagining, and just being allowed to truly express themselves through arts and culture.

We heard from pupils why they felt the arts were so important, and teachers spoke of why Artsmark was so important for their schools.

Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee School in West Sussex showed us around, and St Paul’s Primary Catholic School in Portsmouth took us on their journey too.

We also caught up Southampton Youth Offending Services to hear about their experiences, proving the power of the arts in the lives of children and young people doesn’t just come in traditional education settings.
