Judith Carrie (She/Her)

Programme Coordinator – Portsmouth Creative Skills Programme

Judith joined Artswork to co-ordinate the Strong Voices Programme, she currently coordinates the Portsmouth Creative Skills Programme and is an assessor for Creative Apprentices.

A degree in education has led to a varied career centered mainly on children and young people but largely outside the classroom. Residential work with teenage girls in care led on to providing play and leisure opportunities for disabled young people; although a temporary contract does mean she is trained in the creation of displays of office plants.

Hampshire born and bred, Judith enjoyed 6 years living in France and retains strong links with the Fontainebleau area. Returning from France, work advising on inclusion for Hampshire County Council led into consecutive regional development posts with two national charities. Inclusive practice, participation of young people, and the fundamental right of all children and young people to free outdoor play were key themes of both projects.

Judith has experience of fundraising for both small and large scale community projects and enjoys seeing how such projects draw communities together and empower the young people involved.

Outside work Judith volunteers as a school governor and is involved with the adventure playground movement. She is, however, firmly attached to her rural roots and is very rarely far from her garden and its surrounding countryside.

Favourite book: A Room of One’s Own – Virginia Woolf

Favourite cultural space: The Garden of the Muse Rodin in Paris (all my favourite spaces are gardens)
