Karen is a freelance artist, art therapist and community arts professional based in London. After studying illustration she worked in local authority youth services, developing and delivering art projects alongside taking illustration
commissions. She went on to train as an art therapist and currently holds a number of freelance art therapy posts in primary schools, a children’s centre and a homeless hostel. Alongside this she continues to develop her work as a visual artist and regularly exhibits across London. She also works on community arts projects as a facilitator and project manager, working with groups including adults, hospital patients, young people and school classes. Her recent freelance project management projects have included large scale creative regeneration projects involving cross arts initiatives.
She has varied experience of delivering training, largely through managing the Schools and Families Programme at Cubitt Gallery where she devised and delivered training for Primary and Secondary School teachers in classroom art skills as well the Cubitt School for Artist Educators, a celebrated programme for artists seeking to become artist educators. As an art therapist she also regularly delivers training on the therapeutic use of art in working with emotional and behavioural problems for child professionals including teachers, social workers and psychotherapists.
