Activating Creative Learning

Growing creative approaches to learning in classrooms, workplaces and communities

We believe in the power of arts and creativity to fundamentally shape happier and healthier children, and help develop the skills needed to thrive, progress and achieve.

Through delivery of training for individuals and organisations, we will work to ensure young people have access to high-quality creative activities from birth – both within formal settings and on their doorsteps.

Our work promotes and develops creative learning in many different contexts, from schools, SEND settings and the youth justice system, to places of work, communities and individual lives.

Work with education settings

We will work to improve creative teaching within schools, developing continuous learning resources which embed creativity. Schools in Priority Places will be supported to run creative interventions, giving students funds to invest in projects with practitioners based on their interests and ambitions – including work on the themes of supporting mental health, and positively impacting the environment. Teachers will be supported more broadly through a number of training courses (see below), as well as the establishment of networks and action learning sets so they can support each other as they develop and share skills in creative learning.

Support for those working with children and young people

Based on our learning from existing projects, we’ll shape a number of new digital learning courses enabling all professionals working with young people – including teachers, youth justice workers and health care providers - to use creative approaches, and better understand the benefits that these can bring. Practitioners will be equipped to run activities that improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people through creativity – building on Artswork’s successful ‘Supporting Young Minds’ investment work across the South East. We will also host a learning programme looking at how individuals can support and grow youth voice, including by working with Young Cultural Changemakers.
