The role
This role will focus on three new key areas of development:
1. Signposting — sharing music-making opportunities, resources and training with schools and families through SCMP’s website and social media channels.
2. Youth Governance — working to set up new youth-led consultations and governance systems that make SCMP more inclusive, representative and responsive to the needs, interests and ambitions of children and young people.
3. Cultural Education Partnerships — helping children and young people find and move between cultural and creative opportunities and support.
This role will include assisting with the:
- Development and delivery of creative consultations with children and young people
- Sharing of consultation findings and recommendations with leadership and governance
- Creation and sharing of physical and digital promotional materials
- Monitoring and evaluation of promotional materials and campaigns
- Research and mapping of existing youth consultations and networks
- Research and mapping of music and cultural activities available to children and young people
- Administration of signposting and youth-led programmes
About the employer
South Coast Music Partnership (SCMP) is the Music Hub for: Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP), Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, and Southampton. SCMP is a consortium led by three organisations: Portsmouth Music Service, SoundStorm Music Education Agency and Southampton and IOW Music.
Together SCMP leads a strong network of diverse local partnerships to deliver the National Plan for Music Education and provide high-quality music education for all children and young people across the region.

To be eligible to apply for a Breakthrough traineeship, applicants must:
- Be aged 18-25 on the 29th September 2025
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Available to start work on the 29th September 2025 and available for the duration of the placement (until 28th March 2026)
- Have no or little (less than one month) previous experience of working in an arts, creative or voluntary sector organisation
In addition to the above, applicants should also meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Currently not in employment, education or training (NEET)
- Be disabled and/or Neurodivergent
- Have current or prior mental health issues
- Have experienced racism, homophobic or transgender discrimination
- Be a recent school or college leaver (A level or equivalent)
- Are struggling to find work due to lack of employment or training experience
