Our Town Bognor Regis to launch with free Family Arts Day this September: Project will work creatively with young people to re-imagine Bognor Regis town centre Saturday September 3rd, Place St Maur, Bognor Regis, 11am – 3pm

On Saturday September 3rd an array of local and nationally-acclaimed artists will come together on Place St Maur, Bognor Regis, to offer free performances, interactive stalls, face painting and arts challenges for families in the town.

The event is being organised by national youth arts charity, Artswork, to celebrate the beginning of ‘Our Town’, an exciting new project that will see photography artist and facilitator, Lewis, work with a wide range of children and young people in Bognor Regis on their visions for the town centre.

Lewis will be on site at the Place on September 3rd to hear ideas for the future of Bognor Regis, as well as running a fun photo challenge for families using photography to see the town in a new light.

The Family Arts Day will also see fabulous free dance performances from internationally renowned contemporary Michaela Cisarikova Dance Company, who’ll be performing their acclaimed family outdoor dance show, Fish Out of Water, throughout the day, using hip hop, interactive sculptures & responsive music to explore belonging and otherness. They will be supported by brilliant live showcases from local dance schools including Bognor dance school Art of Dance & Fitness, who teach local children from ages 3 – 18.

Alongside the dance stage ‘Punch & Judy rockstar’ ‘Prof’ Glyn Edwards will be bringing his famous traditional Punch & Judy to the Place, Littlehampton’s Organisation of Community Arts will be running an Art Chill Out Zone, and local face painters, Dancing Brush, will be set up outside the Regis Centre.

The Our Town project has been commissioned by Artswork as part of their Arun Inspires programme and devised in partnership Bognor Regis Business Improvement District (BID), the Regis Centre and Arun District Council.

‘The inspiration and opportunity that culture can offer children and young people drives Artswork and this event is all about local children and families sharing their creativity on the Place, exploring new ideas about the town centre and getting inspired by high quality local and international artists’ outlines Programme Manager Beccy East of Artswork.
