Youth-led artwork for Wick, Littlehampton
We are looking for a local artist or collective of artists to work in collaboration with children and young people on a community art project using colour to animate the Council estate, Wick, around Chilgrove House Community Centre.
Artswork in partnership with Littlehampton Town Council, Wick Action Group, Arun District Council and young cultural changemakers in Arun are looking to commission a local professional artist or group of artists to work in collaboration with children and young people on a community art project conceived by them: Colour Up Wick. The project will establish a children and young people’s art group at Chilgrove House and over two terms develop participants’ skills and confidence to design and develop an impactful series of public art interventions that use colour to animate the Council estate, Wick, around Chilgrove House Community Centre.
Wick is an estate near the centre of Littlehampton which contains a substantial provision of the Council homes in the District. Children and young people have told us that they would like to use art to brighten and transform their area, improving how it makes them feel to live there. Young people are interested in exploring coloured patterns and bold graphics, working with a variety of materials, building their skills and creating more spaces that feel lively and fun.
The heart of their community is Chilgrove House and there is a wish for interventions to centre on and emanate out from this area – a site that offers multiple buildings, panels, fences, signs and pavements which can be used for the project – but to use the whole of Wick as a canvas and create a playful and vibrant artistic intervention that spreads across the area.
Up to £8000 is available for this work to include the artist’s time, travel, expenses and VAT. It may also include production and installation of some of the art with young people.
Production costs of up to £7500 are included in a separate budget, as are workshop material costs of £30 per session.
Deadline: 10:00 on Monday 15 September 2025
