New Forest

Our work in the New Forest, empowering young people to lead and make change in their communities through creativity.

What impact have Changemakers in the New Forest made so far?

They created a movement piece that centred around mental wellbeing and self-confidence

The students at Brockenhurst college worked with Joli Vyann to explore the ways that important issues such as mental wellbeing can be communicated through physical theatre and dance.

  • A group of young people watch their peer perform a physical theatre standing lift
  • Three groups of young people practicing physical theatre lifts

This has been a great chance to explore how we can talk about mental health and I've felt listened to when I talk about what helps me.

They created large artworks to display in their youth centre, to celebrate their creativity and community.

Fawley Youth Club worked closely with Angela Chick during this project to produce inspiring pieces of art that communicated the importance of individuality. The main slogan Be Yourself’ was written by young people in hopes of creating an inclusive space where everyone is welcome.

  • Street art poster with a red, yellow and blue background made by young people, with stencilled text that says "be yourself"
  • Street art poster with a bright pink background made by young people, with illustrations of animals like ducks and cats

It’s a privilege supporting the young people of the New Forest and Rushmoor to discover the transformative power of their voice and ideas. Working alongside them on projects that celebrate creative empowerment is a joy, and seeing just how much of an impact they are having in local communities makes it all the better!
