What impact have Changemakers in Slough made so far?

They created two stop motion animation films about the impact of plastic pollution on the ocean and rainforests.

This project happened in response to concerns from young people about littering in Slough, and how it has a negative impact on the environment and on people’s perceptions about the town.

They designed a prosocial conference event that addressed concerns about knife crime and violence in their local area.

Local children and young people were able to remember lost friends, connect with their community, and explore creative ways that they can generate positive change where they live.

  • A large row of young people sit across from each other in pairs and talk to each other at a conference addressing knife crime
  • Young person speaking confidently into a microphone at a pro-social conference addressing knife crime
  • Young person learning how to scratch a record on a DJ mixing deck

It was amazing to be able to lead the day, we really showed that if we want change, we have the power to make it happen.

I was born and raised in Slough and have been working within the Slough community for 5 years – from supporting vulnerable young people to working in groups of diverse and talented young people. I am keen to encourage and empower young people using creativity and offer up a stage for them to build confidence, learn new skills and find the hidden artists in the community. From painting to building tables, it’s a safe space to express and share!
