Temple Ewell Mural & Bike Shelter

Students from Temple Ewell Primary school designed and developed an eco-friendly bike shelter and mural, inspired by their experiences of nature at school.

  • Colourful mural with stencilled text that says "Temple Ewell Primary School"
  • A section of a colourful mural that has a pink sunset on water, pink butterflies and an orange sky
  • A section of a colourful mural with a bird, a blue butterfly and trees on it
  • A section of a colourful mural with a large lilac and pink tree, a river, and butterflies

In partnership with the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership, students from Temple Ewell Primary School designed and developed an eco-friendly bike shelter and mural, inspired by their experiences of nature at school, particularly those connected to the River Dour, and cycling/scootering.

Throughout the project, the young people took part in various activities, including:

  • Workshops, skills sessions, and talks: with architect Charles Holland, ceramicist Raina Erbas, fashion designer Eirinn Hayhow, and mural artist Sam Giles.
  • Designing and voting: from shaping how the bike shelter and mural would look, to having the whole school vote on the final outcome.
  • Community involvement: students organised events such as a bring your bike to school’ day, and a river celebration day.

Throughout the project, the students demonstrated a clear interest in nature and the community, choosing to design an informative booklet about the River Dour for parents.

We need to look after our river better, I am going to tell my parents later how we can.
