Unheard
In the film ‘Unheard’, students at Medina College ask teachers to listen more to their students and see beyond behaviour to better understand the issues young people are facing.
The project was entirely youth-led, with the students deciding on the theme and genre (they decided to create a drama) and the filmmaker they worked with, choosing Bruce Webb after an open call-out and reviewing shortlisted filmmakers pitches.
The students were involved in all aspects of the filmmaking, from scriptwriting to acting, and from camera and sound to writing the original music. The film has been very well received and was described by the preview audience as ‘amazing’, ‘powerful’, ‘inspirational’, ‘eye-opening’ and ‘fantastic’.
I heard!! I listened!!
Having a voice that shapes change is really important; hearing what people need is key to meeting their needs.
GETTING YOUNG VOICES HEARD
Listen Up! is Artswork’s youth-led filmmaking programme, working with seven different groups of young people and starting with the provocative question: ‘If adults were listening, what would you tell them?’
The six films that will be made as part of this project will feature in Listen Up!, a touring festival of youth-led films in October 2026, part of CAN YOU HEAR US?, Creative Island’s six-week celebration of creativity and culture taking place across the Isle of Wight in autumn 2026.
