Voices of Rushmoor
A project creating a living archive of stories that reflect the diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences of Rushmoor’s civilian and military communities.
Voices of Rushmoor is an ongoing community heritage project that brings together young people from across the local area to record, preserve, and share the unique lived experiences and stories of people who call Rushmoor home. Through the project, young people will be trained to capture first-hand accounts from residents of all backgrounds of how Rushmoor has changed over time.
Working with Farnborough College of Technology, Wavell School, Henry Tyndale School, and Farnborough Sixth Form, as well as community volunteers, local councillors, and professional historians, young people will be supported to create a record of present-day Rushmoor life for the understanding of future generations.
The interviews will form part of a long-term digital collection, stored by Hampshire Cultural Archives.
What have young people said about the project so far?
Doing the interview helped me connect with my interviewee.
I'd like to try interviewing someone I don't know as well, to see how it's different from interviewing family.
