Young people create a multisensory map for Dover’s Maison Dieu

Young people from Eagles Class at Whitfield Aspen School led the creation of a multisensory map for the Maison Dieu, Dover, with support from artist Charlotte Chapman. Across a series of consultation sessions, creative making workshops and visits to the Maison Dieu, the group explored the building, shared their experiences of Dover and developed ideas for how the town could be represented through different sensory elements.

The young people created an experiential map that combines sound, texture and visual features to bring Dover to life in an engaging and accessible way. Through the process, they worked closely with Maison Dieu staff and volunteers, helping to shape a resource that reflects their unique perspectives while developing their creative skills and confidence.

The finished map was presented to the Maison Dieu team in late June and will be used during tours and public events, offering visitors a new way to experience and connect with Dover’s heritage through sensory exploration.
