This half-day session explores the dynamics of mentoring relationships and offers practical guidance on how to support others effectively through mentoring. It will help participants understand the role of mentoring in personal and professional growth, and how thoughtful mentoring can strengthen confidence, connection and clarity in workplace relationships.

The session reflects the realities of mentoring in creative, cultural and heritage workplaces, including freelance working and varied organisational structures.

  • Understand the fundamental dynamics of mentoring relationships, including how mentoring differs from coaching and supervision
  • Build core mentoring skills such as active listening, constructive feedback and adaptive communication
  • Explore strategies to create supportive, respectful and productive mentoring conversations
  • Reflect on your own values, assumptions and approaches to mentoring and how these influence your practice
  • Work with practical examples to navigate common mentoring challenges such as managing boundaries, differing expectations, and workplace dynamics
