Lead safeguarding with confidence. This advanced course is designed for Designated Safeguarding Leads/Officers (DSL/DSO), managers and those in senior leadership positions who are responsible for writing and implementing safeguarding policies and procedures. Through scenarios, case studies and practical guidance, you’ll sharpen judgement, strengthen processes, and embed safeguarding in day-to-day delivery.
Course information
Safeguarding: Advanced builds on core knowledge to focus on leadership-level practice across children, young people and adults at risk of harm. Written for creative, cultural and heritage contexts, and readily applicable across adjacent sectors, including charities and the wider third sector, this course blends clear guidance with practical, scenario-based learning so you can act safely, responsibly and in accordance with the law when it matters.
You’ll explore how to:
- Apply UK guidance across children, young people, and adults at risk of harm, and understand thresholds, roles and partners.
- Handle disclosures, allegations and concerns - from first response to accurate recording and reporting.
- Navigate consent, capacity and information-sharing (when consent is needed, when it isn’t, and how to document decisions).
- Lead digital/online safeguarding in hybrid delivery (boundaries, privacy, facilitation practice and escalation).
- Address higher-risk domains: exploitation & county lines, FGM, grooming, bullying (including online), domestic abuse, Prevent.
- Embed safeguarding through policies, procedures and codes of conduct that are clear, practical and relevant to your organisation.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Assess and escalate concerns appropriately, documenting accurately and acting within policy.
- Differentiate between child protection and adult safeguarding, including consent/capacity considerations.
- Lead consistent practice across teams using workable procedures and codes of conduct.
