Course information

Safeguarding: Essentials builds on the Introduction course with deeper coverage of indicators and responses, plus key higher-risk areas encountered in delivery.

You’ll explore how to:

  • Apply the safeguarding guidance to children, young people, and adults at risk of harm in everyday contexts.
  • Manage disclosures and concerns confidently, including accurate recording and swift reporting to the DSL (and LADO awareness for allegations against those who work with children).
  • Recognise and respond to child sexual exploitation, child criminal exploitation, county lines, grooming, bullying (incl. online), domestic abuse, FGM awareness, and Prevent at a practitioner level.
  • Hold professional boundaries in workshops, residencies, site tours and online sessions.
  • Embed safer practice by following your organisation's policy, procedures and code of conduct.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:

  • Identify, respond and escalate concerns appropriately, documenting accurately and acting within policy.
  • Differentiate between child protection and adult safeguarding, including considerations around consent.
  • Create safer sessions both in person and online.
