Artist Commission

Youth-led community artwork, Arun

We are looking for a local professional artist to work in collaboration to work with local secondary school students and create an ecologically inspired artistic community intervention in Westergate and surroundings, near Ormiston Six Villages Academy.

The student community at Ormiston Six Village Academy are interested in collaborating with an artist to explore creating work that celebrates and informs about their local environment. Several substantial local housing developments have transformed the local area and students would like to use creativity to develop artistic materials that help raise awareness of local ecology, wildlife and ways to help /protect it, and highlight the impact of development. Ideas include (but are not limited to) the design of materials such as new signs, maps, planters, planting, outdoor art activity, digital products and physical art works.

The project will work primarily with students in years 7 – 9 and will collaborate with the local Parish Council to identify suitable sites and opportunities for presenting the project’s outcomes.

Other key themes the student body are interested in, which could be built into the project, are activities or ideas that can bring the community together and connect people more, and increasing visibility for the local LGBTQIA+ community.
