Join us for ‘Project Management for the Arts’, a two-part course designed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage and deliver creative projects within the arts sector. Participants will delve into key project management concepts, methodologies, and tools, gaining a solid foundation to lead successful arts projects from initiation to completion.

The course blends clear project management frameworks with reflective discussion and real-world case studies, supporting participants to develop sound judgement and make confident decisions in complex, creative contexts.

In this course, you will:

• Gain an understanding of the importance of project management in the arts sector
• Learn about a range of project management tools, methodologies, and frameworks to support your project delivery
• Explore how to develop comprehensive project management plans and schedules
• Identify project risks and implement effective risk mitigation strategies
• Use RACI and DARCI matrices to define accountability and clarify roles within project teams
• Learn how to manage multiple stakeholders and gain buy-in for your project
• Explore tools for identifying dependencies and tracking project progress, such as Gantt charts
• Explore the "Iron Triangle" (time, cost, and scope) and how to balance these constraints while maintaining creative quality
• Manage risk, quality control, and project compliance to ensure smooth delivery
• Develop greater confidence in balancing creative ambition, stakeholder expectations and practical constraints in creative projects

The course is highly interactive and practice-based. Participants will work with realistic arts and heritage scenarios, reflect on their own projects, and explore how different tools and approaches can be applied flexibly depending on context, scale and risk.

Ideal For:

This course is ideal for professionals working in or with the creative, cultural and heritage sectors (including producers, project managers, coordinators and freelancers) who want to strengthen their ability to plan and deliver projects effectively. It is well suited to those new to project management, team members contributing to project delivery, and people managing projects alongside other roles or stepping into greater project responsibility. It will also be valuable for more experienced project managers who want to refresh their practice, reflect on their approach, and apply project management principles more confidently and practically within creative contexts.

This course takes a realistic and thoughtful approach to project management, recognising the pressures, ambiguity and relational dynamics common in creative, cultural and heritage work. Rather than offering rigid templates, it supports participants to understand principles, ask better questions, and make informed choices as projects evolve.

Part One focuses on core principles, planning and structure, while Part Two builds into project governance, risk, decision-making and delivery.
