Managing Meaningful Youth Voice Projects
Thursday 22 October, 10:00–16:00 (with a one-hour lunch break) | Online via Zoom | £149 per person
A practical one-day course for people who want to involve young people in projects, programmes, consultation or creative activity in a more thoughtful and useful way.
Many organisations want young people to help shape their work, but it can be difficult to know where to begin. Good youth voice work needs more than inviting young people to share their views. It requires:
- creating the right environment for young people to take part
- being honest about what can be influenced
- making sure their contributions are listened to and responded to in a meaningful way
This course supports participants to plan youth voice activity with more clarity, care and purpose. It is designed for people who are planning, managing or delivering work with young people and want practical ways to make participation feel more meaningful, manageable and connected to real decisions.
Using the Lundy Model of Participation as a simple planning framework, participants will explore four key areas of youth voice: creating the right Space for young people to express their views; supporting their Voice so they can contribute in ways that work for them; identifying the right Audience so their views are heard by people who can respond; and building in Influence, so young people can understand how their contributions have shaped what happens next.
The day will focus on the practical realities of youth voice project delivery, including accessibility, inclusion, safer environments, barriers to participation, communication, feedback and managing expectations. Participants will have opportunities to reflect on their own setting and begin shaping a youth voice project plan they can continue to develop after the course.
This course will cover:
- what meaningful youth voice looks like in project delivery
- how the Lundy Model can support practical planning
- how to create safer, more accessible and more inclusive participation spaces
- common barriers that may prevent young people from taking part
- ways to support young people to express their views in different ways
- how to identify who needs to listen, respond and act
- how to build feedback and influence into project planning
- how to make youth voice activity more purposeful, rather than an add-on

Taking this course as part of the wider Youth Voice suite
This course can be taken as a standalone CPD day, particularly if you are newer to youth voice or are planning a specific project, programme or consultation with young people.
It can also be combined with the other courses in the Youth Voice suite. You may wish to follow this course with Youth Voice Beyond Tokenism: Participation, Power and Co-production if you already involve young people and want to look more deeply at shared decision-making, participation and co-production. You may also wish to take Supporting Youth Voice in Strategy and Decision-Making if your work connects to strategy, policy, local decision-making, youth boards, advisory groups or wider systems change.
Taken together, the three courses support a progression from planning meaningful youth voice activity, to sharing power more intentionally, to helping young people influence decisions that affect their lives.
