Young Cultural Changemakers Dover

Kent Wildlife Bioart Sculpture & Habitat

Young people in Dover collaborated with a local artist to create a Bioart sculpture and habitat, highlighting the importance of nature and access to outside spaces.

In partnership with Dover Big Local, young people collaborated with artist Eirinn Hayhow to create a Bioart sculpture and habitat, with support from Kent Wildlife Trust, as well as artists Chloe Das Neves and Sam Giles.

TREE was designed following conversations at Dover Big Local and other open-access events, where the young people wanted to highlight the importance of access to nature and outdoor spaces for their peers in Dover.

Throughout the project, young changemakers participated in a series of workshops that focused on developing their knowledge about sustainable practices and working with eco-friendly materials including mycelium, willow, natural dyes, and found materials.

  • A free-standing bio sculpture made from willow, with a flower shape at the top
  • A group of young people selecting various natural materials to use for their collaborative bio sculpture
  • A willow sculpture embellished with pieces of honeycomb, mycelium and other natural materials
  • A young person fixing a piece of honeycomb onto a natural willow bio sculpture

The hands-on experience not only engaged young people in environmentally conscious activities but also enabled them to contribute meaningfully to their local community and develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
