Gosport Young Cultural Changemakers
Explore our work in Gosport, empowering young people to lead and make change in their communities through creativity, as part of our Young Cultural Changemakers programme.
Our Young Cultural Changemakers projects in Gosport have developed from an initial consultation with 442 students at Bridgemary School back in 2023 and subsequent listening events in schools, during the HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) programme and at Gosport Summer Passport events.
The themes that have emerged from all of these are remarkably similar: young people are concerned about the appearance of the town, particularly the amount of littering, and the impact of litter on the local marine environment.
Our projects in Gosport so far have aimed to address these issues in two ways: by improving the marine environment and by changing behaviours around littering – at the same time fostering improved community connection and cohesion.

The creative projects so far have been a direct response to the environmental concerns expressed by children and young people in Gosport, particularly around littering in the town and its impact on the marine environment.

I am passionate about empowering young people to connect with their communities through creativity. I have seen first-hand the power of youth-led projects to make a real difference – not only to places, but also to the young people who participate, boosting confidence, self-esteem and connection to their communities.
